i see it as getty suddenly in a board meeting realising once google cloud gets going and users can sell direct much easier without huge %'s being taken from them, then all stock agencies getty included will be defunct, so they are panic selling.....*

What does Google Cloud have to do with anything? Anyone can sell direct currently.

its more a everyone will be able to host and sell via google, yes everyone can do it at the moment, but its easier as the way things are at the moment to go to a website specific for stock,, but the moment it doesnt become the best way to find pictures,, a new google image/video search implemented  via user rented cloud space, maybe,, then there will be no need for stock sites at all.


Quality , popularity, search terms, new files everything could be sorted and found  just as easily with just a slight change in the way google works, they could even stick on the sales side of things to make it easier where users can set their own prices. its inevitable its going to happen, the question is when.

Nah,,, I don't see that google clould could be a competitor...

iStock has it guarantees on the images, on the buying system, on releases and etc.  It will cause to much trouble, be dificult and risky for a company to buy a image from diferent independent artist everyday!

I told you so.


H&F is interested investing, not growing a stock photo agency. Thier goal from day one has been to trim the fat (redunant staff...), use iStock to make Getty look as profitable and growing as possible, etc - essentially, build something that appears attractive to a potential new owner. Will this affect the individual contributor? Maybe, maybe not - but we're all definitely at the very bottom of the list of folks H&F is aiming to please.  I'll be cautiously optimistic about any develpments... but there's not a single thing anyone of us can do about it one way or another.

This could be the best thing to happen to istock in a long time. Or the worst. Who knows. But at this point, looking at my plummeting earnings here, I'd be willing to entertain just about anything new as possible good idea. Things haven't exactly been going great under current ownership.
