I went for a walk with my brand new Canon G1X today and made a few editorial photos. Looking at the photos on my PC i was positively surpriced (i had the G10 before) -  but then again it almost looks like there was noise reduction added to the photos in-camera. Please take a look at this photo:

that was just converted to jpeg in ACR.

There is some expected compression artifacts in the sky. I feel inspection will toss it back to you. Nice photo though

Also, you should add a watermark to your image

Thanks Oxford. I know about the artifacting and i have already removed it. My question was if the "right out of the camera" image looks kind of soft - like after too much noise-removal - or it´s just me ?

it looks like that to me too. You must shoot RAW and process yourself.

I think the detail is adequate. If you think it is soft you could make it smaller. Love the sky and banners with the detail in the building a nice contrast.

It's a very nice quality photo, I'm really surprised.  It does appear canon is applying it's noise reduction in camera but I don't think it's over powering.  It doesn't look like there's a coating of peach fuzz and that's what bad noise reduction looks like to me.  With photos that nice I'm tempted.  Are they all coming out that nice or was this a pleasant exception?

Thanks guys. The photo is shot in RAW and then converted to jpeg in ACR without any other changes. Having applied a little contrast and sharpening and a little noise reduction in the blue sky, i came to this result:

I am thrilled. And my wife will be extremely happy. She was sick and tired of me always carrying me 5D mk2 and the 70-200 f/2.8 around on vacations etc. Of course there are limitations with the G1X but i am sure that it will help me building my portfolio faster.

I have only been shooting that one day (very nice weather with clear blue sky) so far, but most of the photos came out that nice.
