![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Mon Jan 31, 2005 1:01PM | The new Nikon DX2 is way over my budget, but I can spend more than the cost of a D70. Is there a Nikon digital SLR between these two in both price and quiality? Thanks, RMAX |

(I know, the D70 is a better camera at a lower price) Its replacement is likely to be announced soon, maybe at PMA, Feb 20-23. I expect it would be comparable to the Canon 20D only with some surprises. Thom Hogan offers up some speculation what that might be. Historically, there's been around 6 months lag time after a Nikon product announcement before we see actual product. I hope we see it sooner, though, I'm planning to take the DSLR plunge myself this Spring. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Tue Feb 1, 2005 2:19PM | You can wait till the new nikon model that should replace the D100, or u could take the D70, and invest the rest of money in some good lenses, that can make a big difference too (if u still don't have any). Anyway, if u can wait and see the new model, it's a good thing, but if it won't be out soon, better to buy something then, so that u can be able to take photos instead of wait for who knows how long.. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Fri Feb 4, 2005 7:03AM | Mmm, no info yet on a D100 replacement (that I can see), I guess that means it's a long way off? |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Fri Feb 4, 2005 7:32AM | LOL@RMAX. I'm hoping that it's this year. There's a hole in Nikon's lineup since the D70 doesn't really replace the D100 and the D2X is a bit steep. Try reading some of the D100 forums scuttlebutt on Nikonians there might be clues in there and certainly speculation! Try this for a "lineup" in the Nikon line. It might be a D80 and not D200. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Wed Feb 16, 2005 9:02AM | Can't help but feel like they are holding back for PMA. Why the rebate on the D70 (usually a tool to clear inventory)? The rebate ends March 31st, so I suspect there's another unit in the wings that is going to be available right after PMA. I suspect the current announcement is to lower expectation so they can be the hit of the show. As I remember the D70 came out of nowhere last time and nobody even believed it was for real when it hit. (Edited on 2005-02-16 09:08:23 by daymatrix) |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Wed Feb 16, 2005 9:20AM | Yes, I just got the email news from Nikon... D2Hs. damn. I hope you're right, daymatrix. Nikon keeps extending a bunch of their rebates though but maybe this is a good indicator as to not erode their product line hierarchy. There's a huge gap between the D70 and D2X. There goes my new lenses if I have to jump that steep |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Wed Feb 16, 2005 9:38AM | I think if they were going to have something new at PMA they would announce it beforehand, to generate buzz ... but, who knows. Rather than simply lowered expectations, I think the result has been extreme disappointment. (Edited on 2005-02-16 09:51:00 by kickstand) |

I'm really pissy with Nikon right now for this kind of alienation. The benefit of the doubt would be given in hope that the product is still in development and Nikon isn't quick to release things to market before their time. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Wed Feb 16, 2005 11:21AM | Okay look, you're missing one of the most important things. I just bought a new Nikon D70 last week. This, based on my past experience, GUARANTEES there will be something a lot better for just a little more money within 14 days, just after the no-questions-asked return period on mine has expired. Trust me. It never fails. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:56PM | Oh well sorted for now as I've been given a Canon 300D with optional battery grip and kit zoom lens in exchange for some design work. I'll wait to see what higher spec hardware becomes available later in the year. Not sure about the silver body on the 300D though. Is there a good user-tips website for this camera? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comentado Wed Feb 23, 2005 3:49PM | This forum post at dpreview tells of an interview with Mr. Goto of Nikon today (Feb 23 2005) Scoops are: - Will introduce an entry level DSLR (i.e. D50) for first time DSLR buyer (didn't say when). - It won't be just cheap. It will satisfy those customers' needs. - We are working on the successor of D100. Please wait for a little more (didn't say how long more - The D100 successor is expected to be better than D2X in some area. Just like D70 comparing to D100. - Nikon should introduce more affordable DX lenses. - We are askded for PC lenses in DX format. Would like to add it to the product line in future. - We know there are demands for FF. At the same time, we have archived very high quality results with DX format. - DX format will remain competitive even 10 years later from now. DSLR doesn't use films. It doesn't need to stick to 135 film size. - Nikon will capture 40% of world wide DSLR market. (Edited for emphasis on the D200) (Edited on 2005-02-23 09:40:59 by Elfstrom) |
